pouring soap into mold

Soap will continue to saponify while in the molds. It will heat up over the next few hours, going through a "gel" stage - the middle of the mold will become dark & a bit transparent.

When the soap has cooled and solidified, it can be removed from molds. This can take 4-6 hours, but I usually just wait till the next day.

The soap can be removed easily by tugging on the freezer paper.

Freezer paper is peeled off the soap loaf. The soap has not finished saponifying, and is still rather base (caustic). Gloves should be used.

My husband made me this handy-dandy soap cutter. There are grooves cut in for the knife. I weigh every bar of soap to ensure I did not cut them too small.

I have drawn a pencil line on the bottom of my cutter as a guide to the soap width.

Orange-clove soap ready to cure for 3 weeks. Soap continues to saponify, becoming less base (more pH neutral). My soap cures for a minimum of 3 weeks before I will sell it.

Hand crafted soap created and cut in my own kitchen.
